PWIA is tackling fires caused by improper disposal of rechargeable lithium batteries. In collaboration with PBRA, PWIA supported HB 2241, a bill that proposed a statewide program for responsible battery disposal to make communities safer and protect the environment.
Recent months have seen record-high incidents of lithium-ion battery fires in recycling and waste facilities statewide. PWIA calls for legislative action, including support for House Bill 1233, to create safer, more consistent battery disposal and collection systems across the Commonwealth.
